Role Summary/Purpose
The Field Service Technician - Chalmette Refinery will perform overhauls, make emergency repairs, troubleshoot
engine and compressor systems, and make recommendations for repairs.
Essential Responsibilities
In the role of Field Service Technician - Chalmette Refinery, you will:
Diagnose, repair, inspect, and install engine and compressors in industrial processes and
production applications
Plan and coordinate activities concerned with installing equipment
Investigate and resolve customer reports of technical problems with equipment
Eliminate future operational or service difficulties
Work with maintenance crew, in an effort to provide our customer a quality service and also be
self-sufficient and self-starting
Demonstrate practical knowledge of safe practices to include LOTO, Confined Space,
Hazardous atmospheres, basic OSHA, etc.
Perform daily inspections and perform routine scheduled maintenance on compressor
equipment to make sure units are running proficiently and safely
Perform unscheduled maintenance, to maximize equipment runtime
Perform daily inspections and report inspection data on various equipment that is to be
maintained
Ability to safely deploy to remote geographic assignment locations onshore and offshore
locations with limited access to medical care, which may require 4 hours (or more) travel time to
reach secondary level medical care
Qualifications/Requirements
High School Diploma / GED from an accredited school or institution
Minimum 1 year of experience overhauling and maintaining diesel or 2- or 4-cycle gas engines,
and/or reciprocating compressors
Eligibility Requirements:
Be on call, 24/7 days, which could include after hours work on a call out basis and respond
within 2 hours
Work out of job site in Chalmette, LA
Work overtime, weekends and holidays, as required
Comply with safety policies / procedures
Work in a hands-on environment
Lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
Work in a constant pushing, pulling, lifting, stretching, bending and other physical activities
Be in the shop environment a minimum of 8 hours per day, primarily standing and sitting, as
required
Be subjected to extreme heat for extended periods of time
Possess and maintain a clean driver's license and driving record
To the extent that you are applying for a position that requires you to operate a GE owned /
leased or rented vehicle for company business, you must be willing to submit to a check of your
driving record
Undergo Periodic fitness for duty tests, examinations, and/or certifications will be required for
onshore/offshore remote location assignments
